CASTILLO VARIETY

This coffee has mainly Castillo variety. 

The Castillo coffee variety is a type of coffee plant that was developed as a response to the challenges posed by coffee leaf rust (Hemileia vastatrix), a devastating fungal disease that can significantly reduce coffee yields and quality.

Castillo is a hybrid coffee variety created by the Colombian Coffee Research Center (Cenicafe) in the early 2000s, specifically to be more resistant to coffee leaf rust.The Castillo variety is a crossbreed of various coffee types, including Caturra and Timor coffee. It is known for its improved resistance to coffee leaf rust and has become popular in regions where this disease is prevalent.

Castillo coffee plants are generally more robust and hardy compared to some other traditional Arabica coffee varieties, which makes them better suited to areas with challenging growing conditions.While Castillo coffee has been successful in helping coffee farmers combat leaf rust, its flavor profile can vary depending on the specific growing conditions and processing methods. Some coffee enthusiasts argue that Castillo coffee can have a slightly different taste compared to other Arabica varieties, but flavor is influenced by many factors beyond the coffee variety itself, including soil, climate, altitude, and processing.Overall, Castillo coffee has played a significant role in the coffee industry by providing a more disease-resistant option for coffee farmers, helping to ensure the sustainability of coffee production in regions where leaf rust is a constant threat.

15 kg. bags are sent with signed postal service. 46 kg. AND 69 kg bags are sent with courier/freight transport. 

Shipping Costs

Shipping costs are calculated during checkout based on weight, dimensions and destination of the items in the order. Payment for shipping will be collected with the purchase.

This price will be the final price for shipping cost to the customer.

Transit Time Domestically

In general, domestic (EU) shipments are in transit for 2 - 7 days

Orders placed before 12:00 will be dispatched the same day, otherwise, within the next business day.

Our warehouse operates on Monday - Friday during standard business hours, except on national holidays at which time the warehouse will be closed. In these instances, we take steps to ensure shipment delays will be kept to a minimum.

Change Of Delivery Address

For change of delivery address requests, we are able to change the address at any time before the order has been dispatched.

P.O. Box Shipping

Grounds Costa Rica will ship to P.O. box addresses using postal services only. We are unable to offer couriers services to these locations. Only 15 kg. bags can be sent using postal service.

We try to maintain accurate stock counts on our website but from time-to-time there may be a stock discrepancy and we will not be able to fulfill all your items at time of purchase. In this instance, we will fulfill the available products to you, and contact you about whether you would prefer to await restocking of the backordered item or if you would prefer for us to process a refund.

Sugarcane decaffeination is a natural process using sugarcane. This process is considered the process that most conserves the flavour of coffee compared with other technoques

Here’s the scoop:

This process involves fermenting molasses from sugar cane to create ethanol, which is then mixed with acetic acid to become ethyl acetate.

Consider this: ethyl acetate is found in rum, wine, beer, fruit, and many other edibles. It’s not as mysterious as it sounds!

With the abundance of sugar cane in Colombia, it just makes sense to use it for decaffeinating our coffee.

Here’s the process: The beans are gently moistened with water, opening up their pores. In the next phase, they take a dip in ethyl acetate, dissolving the caffeine but keeping all the delicious flavors locked inside the coffee beans. To wrap it up, the beans are steamed to remove any lingering ethyl acetate and then dried to achieve the perfect moisture level.
